Featured homes on the 2018 The Kitchens of New Bern Tour:

River Bend Neighborhood

211 Plantation Drive, New Bern, NC 28562
In 1973, while this home was being built, Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” was a #1 hit on the song charts. The unoccupied home sat for years on the market before the current owners – whose favorite singer from 1973 is ironically Carly Simon – came upon it and saw its good bones and potential. A complete renovation of the main living room and family room as well as a magnificent kitchen transformed this home to a #1 hit in 2018! A kitchen for wine lovers and great cooks in addition to fabulous entertainment space inside and out make this remodel one to ooh and aah over!

226 Shoreline Drive, New Bern, NC 28562
The homeowners wanted an open floor plan for entertaining family and friends in their waterfront home. In this renovation, walls were removed to allow a massive island with plenty of walk space. All new floor-to-ceiling cream cabinets on the perimeter and cherry wood with toffee finish on the island created a warm and inviting color palette ready for guests to enjoy the water view! A double oven cabinet and island cooktop with a downdraft vent enables cooking with ease.

313 Gatewood Drive, New Bern, NC 28562
This ranch-style home is nestled on nearly an acre of woods. Built in 1983, it was true to the ‘80’s architecture of using extra walls to create the feeling of separate rooms in the main living area. These walls were hiding the lovely view of the outdoors as well as blocking the natural light. But the current owners saw its potential and began a multi-phase renovation to create what now seems like a home that is twice as large. Removing the unnecessary walls opened up the home, allowing it to be bathed in beautiful, natural light, and gave way for the kitchen remodel to pull all the spaces together. Vaulted ceilings, shiplap, new appliances, and quartz countertops all work together to create an open and airy space. Smart design shows that every home can have huge possibilities. The homeowner’s backyard and stunning collection of container gardens will also be available to view during the tour, weather permitting.

420 Gatewood Drive, New Bern NC 28562
This home was featured and perfectly described in the Summer 2018 issue of My New Bern Magazine, a Sun Journal publication. This stunning home hidden in the woods of River Bend is most certainly a showstopper with its spectacular view of Tar Landing on the Trent River. The homeowners owned the land for years prior to retiring back to New Bern to build their forever home. The property includes multiple garages to house their fabulous auto collection. This is a breathtaking home, from the gates to the majestic front entrance, and of course the kitchen! Please park on Gatewood and golf carts will shuttle you to the house.

Downtown New Bern

722 Pollock Street, New Bern, NC 28560
Built around 1910, this lovely home was originally built as a duplex with tenants living upstairs and downstairs, each with a private entrance and kitchen. Eventually a homeowner began to develop it into a single family home, keeping the double kitchens. The current homeowner’s vision was to have a larger, user-friendly kitchen, while still respecting the origin of the house. A dry storage closet, with the installation of a load bearing beam, gave them the additional space they desired. Beneath the wallpapered kitchen drywall, original beadboard was discovered, rescued, and reused in the current kitchen. The original back door now hangs on barn door hardware between the kitchen and the dining room. An amazing transformation came together during the renovation. Just wait till you see the BEFORE pictures!

Fairfield Harbour, Crosswinds, Broad Creek Neighborhoods

901 Coral Court, New Bern, NC 28560
Sometimes new homeowners really have to see beyond the existing floor plan and dream big! That is exactly what these folks did when they hired a designer to help bring new life to their home. The terrible two-sided fireplace was the first thing to go because it broke the view of the beautiful water beyond their Carolina room. The tiny dining room and dreary, builder grade kitchen were reinvented by removing walls and flipping the two rooms, thus creating a stunning open floor plan with a formal dining room connected to the kitchen. As an avid baker, this homeowner knew she needed ample countertop space for prep as well as double ovens to keep the treats coming! The granite countertop (fabulously named New Costa Esmeralda) seamlessly joins the ivory-glazed perimeter cabinets with the maple-chocolate island.  The BEFORE pictures prove that good bones can create a great home.

503 Two Lakes Trail, New Bern, NC 28560
This home was custom built in 2015-16 with an eye towards the homeowner’s desire for an open floor plan, the ability to entertain, and enjoying the view of their wooded backyard. The open kitchen features a large working pantry, a two level island with bar seating, and granite countertops. The deep tones of the federal-blue painted cabinets recently became the inspiration to tie the home together (away from builder beige) to a stunning color palette throughout.  The homeowners had custom cabinets built to showcase their fun cookie jar collection. A beautiful home from the porch to the kitchen!

375 Two Lakes Trail, New Bern, NC 28560
This home shows off all the latest in kitchen bells and whistles that enhance its function and design! A rich bronze glaze highlights the beautiful buttercream color of the cabinets, the rope detail on the doors, and the columns flanking the sink and countertop. A lovely island offers a beverage station for entertaining. Featuring a traditional floor plan with its formal dining room, this home is ready for a lovely meal with a beautiful view of their wooded lot.
