Summer Food Service ProgramWhat happens to children on the free and reduced meal program when school is out?
The Food Bank sponosors the program in our 34 county service territory by providing SFSP feeding sites with breakfast and lunch meals at no cost. Feeding sites include community based organizations with summer programs at schools, churches, and youth centers. 2012 is the fourth year of the Food Bank's sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. In the past three years, we have partnered with over 100 sites to feed close to 5,000 kids during the summer months. Efforts have broadened into 20 counties and last year alone served over 85,000 meals. We are excited this year to continue those partnerships and expand the program to increase both number of sites and number of children fed. |
