Summer Food Service Program

What happens to children on the free and reduced meal program when school is out?

SFSP LogoThe Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that children in low-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast.

The Food Bank sponosors the program in our 34 county service territory by providing SFSP feeding sites with breakfast and lunch meals at no cost. Feeding sites include community based organizations with summer programs at schools, churches, and youth centers.

2012 is the fourth year of the Food Bank's sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. In the past three years, we have partnered with over 100 sites to feed close to 5,000 kids during the summer months. Efforts have broadened into 20 counties and last year alone served over 85,000 meals. We are excited this year to continue those partnerships and expand the program to increase both number of sites and number of children fed.

Feeding Sites
Let’s work together to ensure our kids don't go hungry this summer!
Although summer may seem a long way off, it is never too early to start thinking about what will happen to children once school is out and they no longer have access to the nutritious breakfast and lunch served during the school year.
If you are a community-based organization providing services to primarily low-income children, you may be eligible to become a feeding site for the 2012 Summer Food Service Program! By providing enriching programming and nutritious meals, you can help our kids have a fun and healthy summer. Please view our Summer Food Service Program flyer for more information.  Questions? Contact Stuart Jonap at sjonap@foodbankcenc.org or call 919-865-3034.
