The New Bern Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves 5 counties in eastern North Carolina. They are Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow, and Pamlico counties.
In the five counties served by the New Bern Branch 44,889 individuals are at risk of hunger: 20,229 are children, 3,792 are 65 years and older.
NEWS AND EVENTS
One Year Anniversary The New Bern Branch celebrated its one year anniversary on June 2, 2011 with a BBQ for local leaders and volunteers. The branch has had a tremendous impact in the community, distributing over 460,000 pounds of food in the first year. The event was a great success and we appreciate all those who joined us.
New Bern Garden Produces Thousands
A New Bern Garden Production Report indicates that over 8,400 pounds of fresh produce has been grown and distributed to local agencies by the New Bern Community Garden from January through December of 2011. Varieties include potatoes, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant, collards, cabbage, okra, peas and peppers. The New Bern Community Garden is a volunteer based effort with a tremendous impact.
