The Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves six counties in central North Carolina. They are Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, Person and Vance counties.
Last year over 6.2 million pounds of food was distributed to 172 agencies in those counties. The Food Bank at Durham operates 2 trucks that traveled over 40,652 miles last year. Volunteers donated over 16,605 hours of their time last year, equivalent to over 7 full-time employees
In the counties served by the Durham branch, over 96,000 individuals are at risk of hunger: 30,000 are children and over 6% are 65 years and over.

Take the FNS Challenge August 25 - 29 In preparation for Hunger Action Month, we're taking the FNS Challenge. Join us and get a sense of what life is like for thousands of people in North Carolina that receive FNS benefits and live on just $4.06 worth of food each day. Cook-Off with a Kick Thursday, August 28 The Carolina RailHawks join The Chef’s Academy for a food challenge! This event is open to the public with a donation of $5 or 5 food items for the Food Bank! For more information, click here.
CANstruction Friday, September 5 What do canned food, architects, and a scavenger hunt have in common? CANstruction, of course! On September 5, teams will have 12 hours to build their “Around the World” themed structure made entirely out of cans, all to be donated to the Food Bank! Irregardless Charity Beer Dinner Wednesday, September 10 Join us and other local businesses at Irregardless Cafe for their next Charity Beer Dinner featuring a delightful four course meal with fresh ingredients paired with brews from Carolina Brewing Co. #FoodBank24: A New Media Telethon September 26-27, 2014 The date for the third annual 24-Hour Telethon (now named #FoodBank24) has been set for Friday, September 26 starting at 12 noon and airing through September 27 at noon. The Food Bank and Gregory Ng of Freezer Burns are coming together once again to raise food, funds, and awareness as part of the national Hunger Action Month movement. Learn more at foodbank24.org.
World Beer Festival Saturday, October 11 We are thrilled to be the charity beneficiary of this great event at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on October 11! Food Bank volunteers will be there to accept your non-perishable and monetary donations all day. 5 items or $5 will get you to the front of the ticket line!
